796. Něco z Alenky

Neco z Alenky
Alice
1988
Directed by Jan Svankmajer

There are some stories that never get old, no matter how many times you hear them.  For me, Alice in Wonderland is not one of those stories.  Honestly, I feel like I have seen nearly a dozen adaptations of this book and I didn't even like it that much in the first place.

The plot has been hammered into us so many times that I think I will just skip giving a summary.  I suppose what makes this film special is the stop motion scenes and the unusually dark imagery.

I just want to say that I hate stop motion, before I stop grumbling like an old man.  Actually, the film was fairly enjoyable.  Kristyna Kohoutova was pretty adorable, but still managed to give off a distinctly creepy vibe.  Still, it felt like something David Lynch would come up with.  Come to think of it, this might of inspired his movie Rabbits...

Anyway, decidedly not my kind of movie but I can imagine others getting great enjoyment out of it.

RATING: ***--

Interesting Facts:

Svankmajer's first feature length film.
