Zerkalo
The Mirror
1974
Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky
Andrei Tarkovsky delivers us another incredibly boring movie. Perhaps 1974 isn't our year after all.
Honestly, I have absolutely no idea what this movie is about. I didn't understand it during its grueling run time, and I still don't get it, after doing some research online. Basically, this movie is about the life of Alexei, who is an exceedingly dull "protagonist." Pictured above, you will one of the pivotal scenes, when his mother washes her hair. Heavy stuff...
This is the kind of pretentious nightmare that I think most people picture when they hear the term "foreign film." Avoid at all costs.
RATING: *----
Interesting Facts:
I have nothing on this one. Dull to the very end.
Also mystified what this was about ..In facr, as this distance, I'm struggling to seperate out in my mind, which Tarkovsky film bits that flash through my mind were from this .. as opposed from the others.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet... I feel there is something out there.. It's just me that is failing to 'get it'. There are some highly memorable images in his films, and great atmosphere.
So not as down on it as your good self .. but I cannot disgree with your sense of bewilderment
I felt that way when I started the List about a lot of movies. Now I am just growing more and more impatient, I think.
DeleteThis is the sort of movies that make me feel stupid. There is clearly something I am not getting and I do not like that feeling.
