The Challenge

Hi everyone!
I decided to become the most fulfilled person in the world and complete both 1001 lists.  I am a major film buff so I think this will be a lot of fun!  I have made such a dent in this list however that it will be awhile until I am up to date but since no one reads my blog anyway we should be good to go!  Enjoy and leave comments!

Amanda
P.S. All facts/clips will come from either Wikipedia, IMDb, or Youtube.

  1. Hello Amanda,
Well, I may have at last managed to enroll myself as a follower. (That sounds sort of creepy), but I'm not sure if I've got the hang of posting replies.

I thought I had managed it.. but then it all vanished.

I may have to be down, as on Andrews, as just annon.. but I will always add 'Ray' to the bottom of the message so you know it is me.

Lets see if this one works this time..

    1. Hey Ray!
We finally got it to work! Thanks so much for stopping by. I am looking forward to reading your replies!

  2. Yep, I'm here..
You will have to excuse failings now and then, and maybe the odd stupid question..
I may be OK at films and expressing things (your decision on that one), but I am decidedly useless at computing or any other new fangled modern stuff. Hey, I can't even get my spell check to do UK as opposed to US spellings, and I have to fight it all the time to accept colour, harbour, favour etc!
    Ray

    1. I actually get a little thrill each time I see you use a British spelling/expression. I am a huge anglophile and hope to relocate to England one day. Definitely my favorite country in the world.

  3. I just discovered your blog and is so pleased to see you are doing both the movie and book list. I am way behind you, but if you do not mind I will go through your reviews and drop a comment now and then.
Too bad they completely changed the book list. Mine looks very different.

    1. Hey welcome to the blog! I hope you enjoy it and would love to hear from you! I apologize if the beginning posts are a bit brief; still wasn't quite sure if I wanted to readers or if I just wanted to make notes for myself!

I hope there is still some overlap! I would say I would do the later Book lists but I might be 1001 when I actually finish them.

  4. Much like 'Ray', I can't figure out the posting either. I can select the pseudonym Dessie if I comment as "name/URL", but how do I get it to just know it's me? I'm logged in to the page as a Google account I have, but it still seems to need me to type name name each time.

    1. Hmm, I'm not sure! When I comment it automatically says Reply as: "Amanda (google). Do you have a google account?

  5. At first I linked it to my pre-existing Google account but it jut suggests I comment as "Unknown (Google)" It knows it's me as my name appears in the top-right of the page, but not in the comments. I wonder how Ray & TS (who aren't the page owners either) found it?

Off-topic: How did you handle the new version of the book in 2013 which revised large parts of the list? Other revisions have generally only touched the post-2000 films, but 2013 added and removed films all the way back to the twenties. Did you go back to fill in the gaps? Do you intend to do it later?

  6. Idk maybe they will comment! I actually just own the Harrison Ford cover so am working from that. I think when I finish I will try to do the other editions! Which one are you working on?

  7. Maybe they will comment - hint-hint!

The spreadsheet I'm working on must be about five years old. These things made a difference when counting the 2000+ films, but now I'm only watching the oldies it makes no difference other than that 2013 re-hash.

This helpfully explains the additions and removals. Note that it's generally only recent films. Quite how seriously I will take any version if/when I get that far remains to be seen as there are so many films that were in it once upon a time, but it's likely to be a problem for fifteen years in the future so I won't worry about it too much for now.

  8. Hi Amanda - and Dessie. I worked from a slightly older version than Amanda - 'Psycho cover' (which is not a Talking Heads track). When I finished that, I tried to keep up with the latest revisions .. not always easy, especially after the 2013 major revision .. but I am currently on top of the latest list that came out last Sept.As I say, not only 'not easy', but quite annoying when they stick in some crappy teen gross out comedy or the latest crash-bang-boom comic book stuff, for it to go again next year. This revision , every year, starts to feel like a marketing ploy.. I'd like to see some sort of gap before a film is let into the list..

  9. I agree Ray! I think it takes awhile to see if a film will stand the test of time and we should allow at least three years before they include a film. But I guess that wouldn't make as much money.

  10. I don't begrudge them for the updates to the recent films. It's quite an endeavour to have put this book together in the first place and they have to make some money back or else we won't have our fun lists to play with. It's not just getting us hardcore types to buy replacement editions, think about the more casual movie fan who goes to their local cinema quite a lot and wants to see those recent films listed to make them feel included. They don't want to be told that there have been no great films since 1979 so please go away and leave the real intellectuals alone.

Besides, it's only a list, y'know. It's not a religious text or the laws of physics.
