Fargo
1995
Directed by Ethan and Joel Coen
This is one of those films that is seemingly impossible not to love. It's dark and funny with a great cast. Does it get better than this?
A sleazy and financially strapped used car salesman hires two criminals to kidnap his wife so he can collect a large ransom from his rich father in law. However, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry and a complication arises in the form of a pregnant police officer.
What is there to say about this film that hasn't already been said? It's pretty much a perfect movie: atmospheric, gripping, and witty. The cast is flawless; Frances McDormand is quickly becoming a favorite.
Sorry for the short review, but really, I would only need to provide an adequate defense if I disliked this film. Otherwise, I am just stating the obvious.
